Article Information
Background | Hollaback! Ottawa produced a report based on an open forum we held and the results of a survey we conducted on levels and types of street harassment in Ottawa. |
Reason | The Citizen interviewed us as a continuation of their focus on levels of harassment on public transit. |
Comment | It's always great to get this kind of coverage. Unfortunately, it's really disappointing to see the conflict between Hollaback! Ottawa and OC Transpo / City Hall as the primary focus all the time. In this case, it erases the fact that 97% of people are experiencing harassment on the STREET; 44% are experiencing it on transit. Yes, we need to keep the focus on harassment on transit until we see action from the city. Absolutely. But the issue is broader than transit. And it's a shame to see that not resonate in this article. |
Outcome | A whole lot of trolls and haters, but also some great feedback and of course, great exposure for our work. |
